Not only will this cause rust problems, but it can damage concrete and shorten the lifespan of your silo. When you’re looking at a possible buy, you should pay special attention to any areas that seem damp or show signs of rusting.

Of course, the age of the silo will also play a part in its condition and therefore its price, so here are ten things to look for when buying an old cement silo:

1. Look for rust on the bottom and sides. This is especially important on metal legs and base rings because once these parts start rusting they can become unstable and unsafe.

2. Dampness inside the silo could present problems if it isn’t sealed off from air outside or allowed to dry out if the silo is empty.

1. Check the discharge cone for wear;

2. Check the auger feeder assembly for wear and make sure it is free turning;

3. Check access doors on each end of the tank;

4. Check the dust collector on top of the tank;

5. The level indicator should be in good shape;

6. If you have to have legs, make sure they are in good condition and repairable without having to buy new ones;
