Epoxy Asphalt: A look at a new kind of asphalt that is epoxy in nature.

Epoxy asphalt is a relatively new technology that can be used for pavements in a number of different ways. There is a hot mix version, a cold mix version, and even one where the epoxy resin is applied by a spray truck after the regular asphalt has been laid down in order to provide more surface friction for vehicles. Here’s what you should know about this new type of pavement material.

The first thing that you need to realize about epoxy asphalt is that it will generally have a much longer life than traditional asphalt concrete pavement. This is because it has higher flexural strength and better resistance to damage from temperature changes than regular concrete. It also resists deformation better than concrete and can be used in areas such as bridge decks, parking lots, and even airport runways where deformation can be an issue.

Epoxy asphalt is also known to be easier on tires than standard concrete pavement and it has been shown to actually reduce vehicle noise levels in some cases. This can be very useful in areas where there are many trucks using the roads regularly, or where noise levels are already high due to other factors such as nearby industry or heavy traffic volumes.

This new asphalt is epoxy in nature and is used in the same manner as traditional asphalt. The difference is that the epoxy bonded version is much more durable. This type of pavement can last for years longer than traditional pavement, which makes it a product to consider when you are looking at getting some paving work done.

This new type of asphalt does cost more than traditional asphalt. However, it will last longer than other types of asphalt. Traditional asphalt has a lifespan of about ten years before it begins to deteriorate. The epoxy bonded asphalt can last up to forty years or more with proper maintenance. The cost of this material is less expensive over time because you will not have to replace it as often.

Epoxy bonded asphalt is environmentally friendly as well. There are no chemicals added to this type of pavement that are harmful to the environment and there are no toxic gasses produced when it is heated and mixed together.

J&S Construction is proud to introduce our new Epoxy Asphalt product. This product is a new type of asphalt that we are introducing for the first time in North America. The epoxy asphalt product was invented by Dr. Klaus-Peter Kusterer and has been used in Germany for the last 20 years. The principal difference between the epoxy asphalt and conventional asphalt is its low viscosity. This lower viscosity allows the epoxy asphalt to penetrate into pavement cracks up to 1″ in width and seal them from water infiltration. The epoxy asphalt is applied by hand or mechanical means at an application rate of 0.5 gallons per square yard over a crack surface that has been cleaned of all loose material, dust, and sand. A squeegee or roller is then used to work the epoxy asphalt into the crack.

This new method of sealing cracks has been used on highways, parking lots, airport runways, and driveways in Germany with outstanding success at a cost well below that of conventional crack fill materials such as rubberized hot pour or emulsified asphalt crack fillers. In addition to sealing pavement cracks, the epoxy asphalt can be used to seal joints between concrete slabs and other concrete structures such as bridge decks.

The advantages

The new kind of pavement surface is called epoxy asphalt. The main difference between epoxy asphalt and regular asphalt is the top layer. Regular asphalt uses a rock chip seal, while epoxy asphalt uses a thin layer of epoxy cement.

This new technology was revealed by the Road Science Center at ArrMaz. This company developed a process to use epoxy cement as a top coat rather than rock chips. The advantages of this change are that the new surface will be more durable, quieter, smooth and resistant to water.

Epoxy asphalt is also known as epoxy modified asphalt. It is a combination of polymer, cement and asphalt. Epoxy asphalt was developed to be used in repairing and patching asphalt pavement. As a result, the patches will last longer than traditional repairs.

Epoxy asphalt is best used on cracks that are up to one inch wide. The crack should be cleaned out and then filled with the epoxy asphalt. A squeegee is used to push the epoxy into the crack.

Epoxy asphalt, also known as epoxy bitumen, is a pavement material that was first developed in the early 1960s by the United States Air Force. The Department of Defense was researching methods to increase the strength and durability of aircraft runways, and wanted to find a way to utilize an epoxy-modified asphalt cement binder in place of conventional petroleum asphalt cement. At the time, epoxy asphalt was not widely used for pavement purposes because it had not been extensively tested for long-term performance.

Epoxy asphalt is an asphalt concrete that can be applied using a number of different techniques. It can be placed by paver, paving machine or by chip seal spreader. It can also be applied cold or hot, making it suitable for a wide variety of conditions. Epoxy asphalt is used in a number of different applications, particularly when conventional asphalt cements are not compatible with the paving surface due to high temperatures or corrosion concerns. For example, epoxy asphalt is commonly used on steel bridge decks and parking structures because it can provide a strong bond between the pavement structure and steel rebar supports. In instances where traditional hot-mix asphalt would cause excessive thermal expansion and contraction, epoxy asphalt can also be used effectively.

The development of a new epoxy asphalt pavement, sometimes referred to as epoxy cement, is currently underway at the Concrete Technology Corporation (CTC). Epoxy Asphalt combines the durability of concrete with the flexibility and low temperature performance of asphalt. The asphalt portion of the mix utilizes polymer-modified asphalt and SBS rubber modified asphalt.

The biggest advantage of epoxy cement over regular asphalt is that it is more durable. The durability factor is achieved by using epoxy resins instead of petroleum in the mixture. Since epoxies are more expensive than standard tar and asphalt, it will cost approximately 25% more to install an epoxy-asphalt pavement than a standard one.

Other benefits include lower maintenance costs, better skid resistance, damp proofing, and strength in cold temperatures. Both hot and cold lay methods are available for installation of this product.

Epoxy Asphalt has been approved for use by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in airport runways. Other uses include parking lots, driveways, and city streets.
