When to Use Joints and When to Use Anchors: A blog on the different kinds of anchors and what they are built to hold.


In general, it is recommended that you use a joint where possible. They are considerably less expensive and time consuming to install than anchors, but they are not appropriate in every instance.

If you need to hold out against wind or seismic forces you will need an anchor. The same goes for when you need to hold something that is under tension or compression. They are also beneficial when there is a large surface area that needs to be anchored, such as when a large slab of concrete needs to be held by a single point.

The anchor must be strong enough to support the weight of the load without pulling out of the concrete or cracking the cement. If you are using a bolt as a wedge anchor, you need to make sure that it is long enough to go through the entire thickness of cement, so that it can spread out on the other side.

Your choice of anchor depends on what you are actually trying to hold together. There are different kinds of anchors for holding rock climbing routes in place and others designed for holding up a simple garden trellis. Generally, if you are going to be putting an anchor into fresh concrete, then you will want to use an anchor bolt or wedge anchor. If you are going to be putting an anchor into pre-existing concrete, then you might want to consider using a chemical adhesive.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to be attaching something heavy to your concrete wall, such as a flag pole or an air conditioning unit, then you will probably need more than one anchor. In this case, it is best to use several different types of anchors and spread them out evenly across the surface of the concrete. You should place them at least five inches apart from each other and they should be placed at least three inches away from any edge

As a general rule, you should use mechanical fasteners like nails, screws and anchors when the forces on a piece of hardware are not strong enough to be held in place by the glue alone. This can happen for a number of reasons. For example, if the hardware is not long enough to penetrate into both pieces of wood, or if there is some movement between the hardware and wood that is expected over time.

This rule applies to most types of joints. Let’s take a look at some specific examples:

Cement concrete has been widely used in making pavements because it provides a durable surface for carrying traffic. The use of cement concrete for pavement construction began about 100 years ago. In India, the first cement concrete road was laid in 1912 at Crawford market, Mumbai. The modern day roads are built using either bituminous or Portland cement concrete. For making good quality cement concrete, clean river sand of sufficient fineness module should be used. The maximum size of aggregate should be as small as possible within the limit set by IS: 456-2000.
