We have been doing a lot of home remodeling lately. We’ve always wanted to do something with our kitchen countertop, but we could never decide what to do; it’s always been so bland. After much research, we decided to go with concrete board. It was easy to install, and it feels so good beneath our fingers when we’re doing dishes!

Concrete board is waterproof and fireproof. It also resists mold, mildew, and bacteria. Concrete board is available in a variety of colors and textures, which makes it perfect for any kind of decor.

The only problem we had installing it was that the cement board was too heavy for us to lift on our own. Luckily the store where we bought it delivered at no extra cost. The delivery person was very nice and helpful, and he even stayed a while to help us install the concrete board in our kitchen countertop.

We are so happy with the new look of our kitchen!

Plywood is often used as the substrate for kitchen countertops, but it’s not the best choice. Plywood is a structural building material made from wood veneers that are glued together with an odd number of total layers so that the board is balanced. It’s a good choice for subfloors, but because it’s made from wood, plywood can warp or bow over time when exposed to moisture or humidity. If you don’t want to have trouble with your new kitchen countertop very soon, choose a substrate that can stand up to water and abuse.

Cementboard is the best choice for a kitchen countertop substrate. It comes in 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch thicknesses, so choose the thicker one if you have cabinets that need more support. Cementboard is much more stable than plywood and will not warp when exposed to moisture. It comes in 3 by 5 foot sheets, so you’ll need to cut it with a circular saw or jigsaw to make it fit your countertop space.

Cementboard has a rough finish on one side and a smooth one on the other. You’ll want to install it with the rough side facing up; this will allow you to attach the tile or stone without using
