Dzata Cement is a blog about construction materials used in Cameroon. In particular, we cover cement and concrete, which are the two materials that go into making concrete. We want to help people learn more about building materials, so they can make better decisions when working on construction projects.
Our goal is to create a community of people who are interested in learning more about construction materials. We’ll do this by writing articles about these topics, hosting discussions on our blog and social media pages, and by sharing other resources that we think will be helpful for people who want to know more about building materials.
This blog is about cement used as building materials. Cement is a grey powder used to create concrete. Concrete is an artificial stone made from rock, sand, water and cement. Concrete can be used to make blocks, pipes and other things used in construction work. It can be used for making buildings, houses and roads.
Concrete is made in a factory. Workers mix the cement with the sand, water and rocks. The mixture is poured into moulds to make blocks or pipes that are left to dry or harden. Cement can also be mixed with gravel or sand to make mortar which can be used for plastering walls of buildings.
The Dzata cement factory is located in Cameroon and was inaugurated on Monday, December 19th 2016. The company, which belongs to the Nigerian group Intercem will be operated by a subsidiary called Dangote Cement Cameroon.
This is the first of three factories that belong to the group in this country. It is a cement plant with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes, which can receive up to 600 thousand tons of clinker per year and has two terminals for the distribution of its cement.
The construction of the factory began in February 2015 and had an investment of 180 million dollars, while the new plant will create 2,500 direct jobs in its first phase and 4,000 indirect jobs as well as contributing to the development of nearby towns.
Dzata Cement is a reliable and leading cement brand from Ghana used in building and construction works. It is a product of Dangote Cement, the largest cement producer in sub-Saharan Africa. Dangote Cement is the most popular cement brand in all African countries where it operates.
Dzata Cement was launched in 2017 to meet the growing demand for quality cement products in Ghana and other West African countries. It has since grown to become one of the most trusted brands for concrete and building solutions.
The company has factories in several countries including Nigeria, Ethiopia, South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia, Senegal, Congo, Kenya, Benin Republic and Tanzania. It also has trading depots across Africa where its products are sold to customers who cannot access its factories.
I would like to share with you an experience I had when my sister and I were renovating our house. We needed some concrete. Not a lot, just enough to make a foundation for a tool shed my dad was going to build and an outdoor kitchen we wanted.
Our local cement company said they could deliver the proper amount of concrete in 1 cubic meter bags. The delivery truck arrived and dumped the first bag but it was immediately clear that this was too much so we asked them to leave the second one.
The next day, we started working on the foundation for the shed. We cleaned up the area, dug a hole and got out our wheelbarrow and shovels. We put everything in place to begin pouring the concrete into the hole when all of a sudden, it hit me – where is the cement? The delivery company had forgotten to bring us the second bag!
Cement is a binding agent and is a key ingredient of the most used man-made material: concrete. The demand for cement is strongly correlated to the rate of economic development.
Cement is used in the production of mortar and concrete, two types of construction materials that are critical to the global construction industry. Cement production is an energy-intensive process, with energy costs accounting for 30%–40% of production costs (Garg et al., 2013). For example, coal-fired thermal power plants emit approximately 9095 kg CO2/MWh, which is almost double the emissions per unit of electricity generation from a natural gas combined cycle plant (IEA, 2014).
Cement manufacturers purchasing clinker usually grind it as an addition to their own clinker at their cement plants. Manufacturers also ship clinker to grinding plants in areas where cement-making raw materials are not available.
A cement mill (or finish mill in North American usage) is the equipment used to grind the hard, nodular clinker from the cement kiln into the fine grey powder that is cement. Most cement is currently ground in ball mills and also vertical roller mills which are more effective than ball mills.
It’s official: the most important building material in the world is concrete. And one of its most important ingredients is cement. Cements used in construction are usually inorganic, often lime or calcium silicate based. They harden when combined with water. They are distinguished from other non-cementitious materials with similar functions, such as lime and bitumen, by the ability to set and harden independently, and then bind other materials together.
Cement is used with fine aggregate to produce mortar for masonry, or with sand and gravel aggregates to produce concrete. Concrete is the most widely used material in existence and is behind only water as the planet’s most-consumed resource.
