White concrete has to be mixed at the ratios provided.
The mix is then allowed to set before being ground to a smooth finish.
This makes it possible to create beautiful white floors and countertops.
Concrete:
White concrete is more difficult to make than black concrete. The first, and most obvious problem is that all of the ingredients are white and so are difficult to see when combined. A second problem, and one which is a little less obvious, is that the mixture has to be made in the ratios provided. Too much of any ingredient will cause the concrete to not perform as intended. A third problem that is not so easily overcome is that white concrete must be mixed uniformly throughout or it will not look right. These problems can be overcome by following some simple rules. The first rule is to never add more sand than what was originally called for in the recipe. The second rule is to never add more water than what was originally called for in the recipe. The third rule is to mix thoroughly and consistently until all of the ingredients have been fully incorporated into one another.
White Concrete Mix
This is a very simple mix that can be used for making anything from garden stepping stones to benches and landscaping features, including a small outdoor table. It’s very easy to use and you can make many different, attractive items with it.
Mixing the Concrete
You’ll need white cement, white sand and “white stone” or marble chips. The marble chips are available in garden centers in bags and are usually quite small, around 5mm or so. You’ll need about 1 part cement to 2 parts sand to 4 parts marble chips by volume. Small batches can be mixed in a bucket or a wheelbarrow but if you want to make larger quantities you’ll need a cement mixer: these are available from most good tool hire centers and are not expensive to use.
The ratios of cement, sand and stone must be mixed at the ratios provided; mixing the components of concrete by volume is not an exact science like baking where an extra egg won’t really make much difference. A little more water is required than with normal grey concrete because of the extra absorption from the marble chips so it’s better to add less water initially and then add more slowly until the concrete is of a consistency that makes it easy to spread without being sloppy.
In order to create the perfect white concrete you must follow the ratios provided by WhiteConcrete.com. Mixing the concrete is a very particular process. Do not attempt to mix it on your own, always use our premixed concrete.
If you chose to mix concrete on your own, please be aware that we are not responsible for any mistakes that you may make when mixing the concrete. WhiteConcrete.com will not be held responsible for any errors made in the mixing process.
Our premixed concrete has been thoroughly tested and each batch is mixed according to our exact instructions. We guarantee that if you purchase our premixed white concrete it will turn out a perfect white color every time.
White concrete is made by adding water to a white cement and sand mix. It is not difficult to make and can be used for numerous projects that require a decorative concrete finish.
What Is White Concrete?
White concrete is an attractive material, though it may be more expensive than traditional gray concrete. The color comes from the materials used in the mix, and the color of white cement can vary widely. White Portland cement is made using only the finest quality raw materials and state-of-the-art technology at our UK manufacturing plant in the heart of Derbyshire. In order for white concrete to retain its color, you must use white sand as well as white cement. You can also add white aggregate, but this will significantly increase your costs.
Mixing White Concrete:
The ratio of sand to cement along with water depends on the purpose of the concrete. For example, a concrete mix for foundation walls or a base for paving slabs would require more sand and less cement, whereas a mix for paving slabs would contain more cement and less sand. You should follow the instructions that come with your pre-mix white mortar exactly unless you have experience mixing your own concrete. In general, you need about six parts sand to one part cement when making
This recipe for white concrete is from a recipe book of William Woys Weaver, a scholar who also has a knack for cooking. The book “As American as Shoofly Pie” is available from the University of Pennsylvania Press (1998). It is a collection of recipes that are representative of Dutch-Pennsylvanian cooking.
The following recipe is taken directly from the back of the bag of Safeway Portland cement, with additional notes provided by Mr. Weaver.
White Concrete (for sculpting)
To make a smaller amount, use 1 part cement to 2 parts sand and 3 parts gravel. In order to make it white, you will have to purchase white portland cement which can be found at most garden centers and home improvement stores. You can also purchase bags of pre-mixed white concrete at these stores labeled ‘White Mortar Mix’. This product has not been tested by the author so use this basic recipe as your guide.
In the event that your concrete comes out too light in color, you should increase the amount of pigment used. If you add too much pigment to your concrete you should reduce the quantity of white cement by a corresponding amount. Be careful not to add too much water to your concrete mix as this may cause cracking and weakening.
The correct water content is important when mixing the white concrete, so make sure it is accurate. For example, if you have got five gallons of water and a total weight of 100 pounds, then your water-cement ratio would be 0.5:1. This is too wet and any additional pigment will not be able to bond with the cement properly.
You may have to experiment with different amounts of pigment until you get the right result. It is better to add small amounts at first, until you can see how it affects the concrete’s color. You must be patient and use trial and error until you are satisfied with the results.
