Step 1
In this step, we are going to create the concrete table base.
- Start by determining the dimensions of your desired table and marking out the perimeter on a flat surface. In our case, we used four pieces of 1x4s to create an 18 x 30 inch rectangle as a guide for our base.
- Next you need to gather supplies, including:
- Deep plastic dish pan
- Quikrete 5000 mix (3 bags) or equivalent concrete mix
- Wooden spacers (four pieces of 1/2 inch dowel rod, cut to 18 inches long)
- One tube of construction adhesive
- Concrete bonding adhesive (one bottle)
Step 2
Next, cut the wood for this project to size. I used a circular saw for most of the cuts, but resorted to a jigsaw when I had to cut curves. To keep from ending up with crooked cuts, I used a carpenter’s square and clamped it in place so the edge was tight against my work surface. If you have any questions about what size your pieces should be at each stage of construction, refer to the plans that come with this post. Once you’ve got everything cut out, start nailing all your pieces together as shown in the pictures below. Use a nail gun because it makes it go much faster than hammering by hand.
Step 3
Place the grill on top of the form and take note of the height. The concrete must be at least 3 inches deep in order to accommodate a standard charcoal grill. You will also need to make sure the concrete is level with the sides of the form so that you don’t have a higher lip on one side than another when it’s done. This can be accomplished by using a straight line as a guide for leveling, or (the easiest way) by using a laser leveler attached to your metal frame stakes to help you get it right before pouring.
Once your form is correctly positioned and leveled, you are ready to pour your concrete.
Step 4
The next step is to make a concrete table for your barbecue. Make sure that the table is at least six feet long and three feet wide.
Step 5
Once all of the slabs are placed and you’re happy with the positioning, it’s time to put your laser level to work. Laser levels are ideal for this job because they can cast a beam up to 100-feet in length, so you don’t need a second person helping out. Start by placing the laser level on one end of the table and check if all of the slabs are level using your carpenter’s level. If they aren’t, place more gravel under them until they are. Once that side is done move over to an adjacent side and repeat until you’ve checked all four sides. At this point, use a spirit level or any other type of simple level to double-check that each slab is sitting flat against its surrounding boards.
Step 6
Mix the concrete. Pour the concrete into the forms and use a splitting block to compact the concrete, then finish with a plastic float. When finished, let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then using a roller tube make imprints in the concrete. Let it dry overnight before removing the forms.
Step 7
- Use a circular saw to cut the table top.
- Set the table top in place, and screw it to the table base.
- Spend some time cleaning up the table. After it has been assembled, use a hammer and chisel to remove any excess concrete that has spilled out over the forms during assembly. Once you have everything cleaned up, let your new BBQ grilling table sit for approximately one week so that it can cure properly before you put all of your cooking accessories on it and get ready to fire up the grill!
Step 8
Because concrete is very porous, it will absorb smoke and smells. To prevent this from happening, seal the entire table with a food-safe sealer. This can be purchased at a DIY store or online. If you don’t seal the table before use, your grill table will absorb the smells of whatever food you’re cooking on it. And once that happens, you’ve got a problem: no one wants to eat burgers off a grill top that smells like fish! But, if you do remember to apply the sealer before use, you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful grill table for many years to come.

I hate when I’m having a barbecue and my guests have nowhere to put their drinks. And when I’m grilling, I can’t find any place to put the things I need to have on hand: the tongs, my phone for playing music, my salt shaker—you name it.
That’s why I decided to build a table for barbecuing. Not only would it provide me with a flat surface to grill on, but it would also give me a place to put my stuff while I’m grilling.
I’ve seen similar tables online that cost as much as $200, which is way out of my price range. So I decided to make one myself using concrete! Now I’ll be able to grill in style.

Do you want a badass barbecue table. You don’t have to be a carpenter to make this table.
All you need is some concrete and some wood, and my step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Buy your concrete from the store.
Step 2: Get your wood from the store.
Step 3: Mix the concrete, pour it into your mold, and let it cure for about an hour.
Step 4: Remove the mold, and sand down the edges to make it smooth. Let it sit for another three hours before you put anything on top of it, but after that time has passed, feel free to put anything on top of it! It’s great for grilling steaks, making guacamole, or kneading dough for pizza.
With summer here and the weather getting warmer, we’re all itching to break out the charcoal and fire up the grill. But if you’ve been grilling for a few years now, you might be starting to think about investing in something a little more permanent—something that will stand up to the elements and your family’s love of meat.
Before you go running off to the nearest big box store, why not consider making your own grilling station? It’s easier than it sounds, and by doing it yourself you can create a custom cooking space that will serve your family for many years to come.
First things first: choose a space. If you want an outdoor kitchen, you may want to look into installing gas lines so that you can use propane-powered burners. But if you’re just looking for a place to gather around while grilling, then anywhere with access to electricity is a great option.
Next, build the frame. You’ll want four posts to hold the countertop in place; these posts should be at least six inches taller than your finished countertop will be (for example, 10″ posts for a 4″ countertop). Once the posts are finished, pour concrete into each post hole and let it set for about two days
