The Nagarjuna Cement Factory was established in the year 1987 by Sri Venkateswara Cement Company Limited located at Mellacheruvu (Village & Mandal), Nalgonda District, Telangana State. The main objective of the company is to utilize waste-heat of kiln and cooler gases to generate power. In order to achieve this, the company has set up a Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant (WHRPP) based on 4th generation technology supplied by M/s Bilimoria Engineering Corporation, India and M/s Kvaerner Energy, Germany.
The plant configuration consists of 2 sets of WHRPP each of 3 MW capacity. The total steam requirement for WHRPP is supplied by 2 sets of waste heat boilers constructed with German technology under license from M/s VEW Energie Technik GmbH, Germany.
The work on erection and commissioning commenced in January 2003. The project was completed in record time of 18 months and the plant was commissioned by November 2004. In the very first year itself, Nagarjuna cement has achieved 56% overall plant load factor (PLF) i.e., average power generated during a period is 56% of the installed capacity which is highest

Another 300 TPD Kiln was commissioned during 1992 to produce high grade clinker for bagging and dispatch.
In 1994, the Company decided to expand further by putting up a new dry process line of 2175 TPD capacity with a kiln feed of 10,000 TPD of limestone at Mellacheruvu to meet the growing demand for cement and also to maintain its existing market share in Telangana Region. The expansion project was completed successfully by July 1996, well within schedule and within budgeted cost.
