5 Things I Wish I Had Known About Making Concrete Pavers: A blog about the process of choosing how to build outdoor cement pavers.

One of our favorite projects was building a backyard patio with concrete pavers. As we were researching this project, I found that there are a few things that we wished we had known beforehand. 1. “Concrete Pavers” is really just a fancy way of saying “cement”

I know that sounds obvious, but it is true! You may be thinking about how nice the finished product looks on Pinterest, but you need to be aware that the process of making cement pavers is pretty messy. You will be mixing large amounts of sand with 6 bags of cement mix in order to make your own concrete pavers from scratch. This means you will need some extra hands for this project as well as access to water and electricity nearby.

2. You need to build a frame in order to keep your cement paver mold in place

It took me several tries to figure out how to build concrete pavers.

I wish I had known these 5 tips before making my first paver:

1. The cement mortar needs to be wet when you set the pavers into it, else they will dry too quickly and separate from the mortar. Spray water on the back of the pavers before putting them into the mortar.

2. Don’t cut the pavers. Instead, break them with a hammer like you would break a brick. It’s easier, more fun, and you get a more natural stone like result.

3. Use gloves when handling cement or it will burn your hands really bad!!

4. The concrete mortar takes several days to cure after you finish laying the pavers so don’t walk on it for several days at least!

5. Buy extra cement in case you run out mid project (which is likely if you are doing something big)

I recently created a modern backyard patio using poured-in-place concrete pavers, and it came out looking great. However, I wish I had known more about the process before I got started so that I could have avoided some of the mistakes that I made. 5. Creating the perfect

Making concrete pavers is not a complicated process. It’s definitely something you can do yourself. Here are five things I wish I had known before I started making concrete pavers:

2. The more water in the concrete, the lighter it will be. If you have a few bad back-straining experiences like we did, you might decide to add more water to your mix so that it’s easier to move around. Just know that this will make the concrete weaker and also more prone to cracking because of shrinkage as it dries.

3. The color of the pavers will be affected by the color of your sand. When you pour your concrete into the mold, sprinkle some sand on top so that the surface isn’t smooth (see video below). Once you unmold your pavers they will naturally have some sand stuck to them, and this will make them look slightly darker than if there were no sand on them at all. If you use brown sand,

After spending many weekends and hours upon hours making my own concrete pavers, I’ve compiled a list of things I wish I had known before starting.

1. You can make your own pavers using cement and rubber molds.

2. Cement is heavy and hard to work with, so you want to keep your mold sizes manageable.

3. The quality of the cement you use makes a big difference in the final product, so don’t skimp here.

4. Curing pavers in the sun is best, but not always possible if it’s hot outside, so be prepared for that!

You will need to purchase 10 percent more than your calculated material needs to account for cutting and waste. And it’s best to buy a little extra to have on hand for future repairs. You may also want to look for “seconds” at your local home improvement store; these are damaged pavers that may not be suitable for your main project, but can be used as fillers or in other places where appearance is not as critical.

2. Spray the ground with spray paint

Before you start laying the pavers, spray paint the ground with the layout of the patio so you know exactly where everything goes before you start digging and moving dirt around.
