How to Make A Furniture Makeover Budget-Friendly: A blog around using distressed furnishings as a way to save money on furniture while still maintaining a classic and stylish look.

I get asked a lot about the process I use to make my furniture makeovers budget-friendly but yet still maintain that classic look I like. Let me walk you through it step by step:

The first thing you will want to do is find some inspiration for your project. You can use a website like Pinterest or Houzz, or even flip through magazines. The goal here is to find a piece of furniture that you like and want to reproduce. Then just take the overall feel of that piece and apply it to your own piece, which we will go over in more detail in a moment.

Once you have decided what overall feel you want for your makeover, you are ready to decide how much money you want to spend on your project. This will play into every decision you make going forward so be sure that you are paying attention here. The best way to keep costs down is by using items you already have on hand or can get for free, like paint and stain, as well as sandpaper and

There are a few ways to make a furniture makeover budget-friendly. One way is to use chalk paint and distress your furniture. This technique has become extremely popular due to the fact that you don’t have to strip, sand or prime your furniture. This can be a major time savings as well as cost savings by skipping these steps.

I will admit, I did not always love the distressed look. It’s one of those things that you either love or hate. Since I’m such a fan of all things classic, I wanted to give it a try when I found out about chalk paint.

Once I started using chalk paint, I realized that you don’t have to do a distressed finish. You can also choose not to distress it and keep the look on the more classic side (which is how I like my pieces).

I’ve found that the chalk paint is great for painting any piece of furniture, but especially great for updating old laminate pieces without having to sand them first! It’s also great on glass and metal!

There’s more to budget-friendly than painting furniture cement grey and applying crackle medium. Here are some tips to help you create a design that works for your space.

You’ve just flipped the last piece of greasy furniture onto its side, but instead of the rush of endorphins you anticipated, you’re feeling a bit nauseated. The reality is, you’re not really sure how to create a cohesive look with all of your new pieces. You envisioned a beautifully curated space with all of the pieces working together in harmony, but now it seems like every style period from Gothic Revival to Mid-Century Modern is represented.

Before you go running back to Pottery Barn, take a breath and take stock. With a little planning and creativity, you can have the room of your dreams without breaking the bank.

Start with a Plan: Making major changes to your home can be overwhelming unless you have a plan. I suggest starting with an overall concept for the room and then building on that by adding details. Consider things like furniture layout, color palette, mood, lighting and storage needs before making any purchases or beginning any DIY projects. While it’s fun to shop vintage markets and thrift stores, it’s easy to get carried away and wind up with more

When you’re on a tight budget one of the best ways to save money on furniture is to buy dated pieces and give them a new look.

It’s easy to take an old piece of furniture or a thrift store find, and make it look like new with a bit of sanding, paint and distressing.

For this article we will be focusing on distressing a chest. This is a great project for those who are just getting into the world of DIY because it’s simple to do and doesn’t require the use of power tools.

I love distressed furniture. It is my favorite way to makeover furniture because it is easy and budget-friendly. There are so many ways to distress furniture, but today I am going to show you how I distresses a solid wood piece and get that beautiful white, cement grey color. If you want to see the finished product, check out this post on how we used this technique for our master bathroom vanity!

Supplies Needed:

a piece of solid wood furniture

sand paper (or an electric sander)

primer

paint (I used Valspar Swiss Coffee in semi-gloss)

varnish or polyurethane (to protect your paint)

blue painter’s tape (optional)

I have learned a few tricks through the years on how to distress furniture so that I end up with a consistent look each time.

I wanted a grey distressed table for my dining room for years, but I never seemed to be able to find the exact piece that I wanted. And when I did find a table that I liked, it was definitely not in my budget.

So, I decided to make my own grey distressed table using chalk paint and wood stain. It took me a total of 4 hours and it cost me less than $100 to make this great looking new-to-me table.

I’ve had this table in my home for years, but it has always sat in the corner of our office as a place to put mail and keys. And while I really liked the color of the wood, it just didn’t seem to fit with my decorating style anymore.

Here are the materials that you will need if you want to make your own grey distressed table:

A Table – Mine is an old antique sewing machine table but any old table will do!

Wood Stain – I used Minwax Special Walnut stain and love how it turned out!

Chalk Paint – I used country Grey chalk paint by Dixie Belle Paint Company because I love how easy it is to work with and how durable it is.

Sander or Sanding Block – This makes distressing

Cement grey is the new black.

I love the new trend of distressed furniture with a cement paint finish. It’s like the new chalk paint in the furniture world. It’s made to look like concrete and gives a very industrial and modern look.

I had an old table that I knew would be perfect for this kind of project. The table was a bit old and too short for me, but it had a great shape, so I decided to revamp it into a brand-new one using cement grey paint.

I will show you how I transformed my table from a boring beige to cement grey with this super easy DIY tutorial!
